Mariposa Birth and Wellness

About Us

We believe in the well being of the whole woman, her mind, body and spirit. We advocate for wholeness through the building of mutual relationships between woman, midwife and family through dignified, excellent maternal healthcare, empowering education and mutual friendship.

We support your  birth choices, at home or in the hospital.

We believe that midwifery care is more than caring for  a woman as she grows and births a baby.  Midwives support the development and  birth of mothers, fathers and families.

What We Do

Prenatal Care

We provide full spectrum prenatal care for all low risk pregnant women. We work with both home birthing and hospital birthing moms. We offer standard prenatal testing, if desired. We believe pregnancy is a normal and healthy state, and support you in promoting health through nutrition, exercise, and emotional balance.  Most prenatal visits last about an hour.  We welcome partners,  children and extended family.

Labor and Birth

We offer holistic  home birth, and water birth.  For hospital birthing clients, we offer labor monitoring at home, and doula support in the hospital. We are on call and available to you 24/7 from your 37th week of pregnancy until your baby is born.

Postpartum and Newborn Care

For our home birth clients, we make sure you are stable, settled, comfortable, clean and fed, and baby is stable and starting to nurse before we go home. We provide standard newborn care, with vitamin K shot, erythromycin eye ointment, and newborn screening, if desired.  We do home  visits at 1 day, 3 days, 1 week and 3 weeks and follow up with an office visit at 6 weeks postpartum to make sure you are recovering well and your baby is thriving.  We provide the same home visit schedule for hospital birthing clients, if desired.  We complete the preparatory paperwork for birth certificate for home birth clients.

I couldn't have been more pleased with Allison. She was present at the home birth of my son. She was able to read my cues and let me labor how I wanted. When I was having doubts, she knew exactly what to say. I honestly don't think I could find a better midwife. She will definitely by who I choose for my next birth!     ---Sara

FAQ Stuff...

Q: Why would I go to a midwife if want  to have my baby in the hospital?

A: The great thing about midwifery care is that it helps wherever you choose to birth. Because we emphasize taking the time to get to know you, to address your specific needs, to support you in being the healthiest and strongest you can be, and to prepare for the realities of birth and how to cope, you are much more likely to have a healthy, safe birth with fewer interventions. Women who receive midwifery care in pregnancy have fewer inductions, fewer C sections, less need for medication in labor and fewer complications after the baby is born.

Fees for Midwifery Services
